Who is Eleggua/Eshu?
Eleggua is the key, Eshu is the gateway. People often have misconceptions of Eleggua and align him with the Devil due to his trickster ways and karmic morals. Eleggua is known as the owner of all roads while Eshu is known as the path where all roads stem from. Eleggua’s colors are red and black the numbers associated with him are 3, 7, and 21. Known as the messenger of the orisha it is said that nothing passes Eleggua’s eyes for he sees all. People believe that Eleggua is present everywhere at all times and that all prayers and religious practices have to go through him before they can reach the other Orishas. He has the power to allow roads and doors to open from the spiritual world to the material world, which helps to provide people with their destinies.
Eleggua also has the ability to test a person's word and integrity to see if they are honest. If someone passes Eleggua's test, it means that they are a trustworthy person
Eleggua and Eshu are two sides of the same coin. Representing balance and fate, my madrina always says “We start with Eleggua and we finish with Eleggua”
To be clear Eleggua only speaks through Obi, Diloggun or Opele; through way of Babalawo or Santero/Santera. He cannot be received in the mail or through digital proportions it has to be in person, furthermore to receive Eleggua requires going through the ceremony of Ocha while Eshu is received when one receives their hand of ifa.
